As the temperatures dip we find ourselves spending more and more family time inside. As much as I love sledding and snowball fights, some days simply call for cups of hot cocoa and indoor fun. I’m partnering with Babbleboxx to show you some of our must-have family products for winter fun.
When I think winter I want to think warm and fuzzy – which is exactly how we spend our evenings! And bedtime has gotten a little cozier thanks to the Helio Night Light Projection System. Now we can all cuddle up after storytime and relax in the warm glow of Helio. This is more than just a soothing night light – Helio’s award winning design projects educational lesson plans on to the ceiling at night. As the kids drift off to sleep we gaze at the slides together, talking about what we see. Our favorite is the Solar System slide, and my boys love to point out the planets, share things they’ve learned about space of talk about someday becoming astronauts. The Helio Base Station comes with an assortment of five starter slides, and you can purchase additional slides to suit your child’s interest and age. I love that we get to squeeze in a little more family time, and that my boys get to associate learning with positive, fun memories – meaning I get to squeeze in a little more studying without making it a chore! We’ll be purchasing the State Map Slides to brush up on our Geography next!

We love to use our imaginations and the WowWee Magnaflex magnetic construction toy is perfect for mess free building. The magnetic strips bend and connect and allow kids to build in new ways. I love to pull out a box of Magnaflex and sit around the living room table creating together. My seven year old loves to build airplanes and rocketships, while my ten year old challenges himself to make the tallest building he can. We all pitch in creating trees and cars, and even a dinosaur or two courtesy of my five year old. It’s a great family activity and the unstructured play really allows us to be silly and have fun together! Perfect with a big bowl of popcorn. Keep your camera handy to take pics of everyone’s favorite creations!
This is one of my favorite family activities: bedtime stories. I love to read, and as a mom of four I struggle to find time to read myself. I really want my boys to love to read as much as I do, and to see it as an escape into adventure rather than a chore. Picking bedtime books is a pretty big deal. I love to find stories that draw all of us in. The Wonderling has become a quick family favorite. The book, a tale of two friends who escape a cruel home in search of adventure find themselves on an extraordinary quest. The book is full of literary magic, friendship and courage. We all find ourselves pulled into this whimsical tale, reading “just one more chapter” more nights than not. It’s the kind of book that children look back on as the one that showed them reading can be a true adventure. I love that we get to enjoy the journey together, and that bedtime reading has become something we all enjoy.

I love surprising the kids with a fun new ornament as we decorate the Christmas tree. This year they received the PEZ Elf Christmas Ornament. This adorable ornament includes an Elf PEZ dispenser and two PEZ refills. We hung the ornaments on our tree to be opened (and eaten) on Christmas Eve. Of course, the kids can’t wait to eat the PEZ candy – it’s one of the only candies that everyone in our house loves! I may even put some PEZ Christmas ornaments in their stockings, because you can never have too much PEZ! This is one traditional that we’ll keep up. I love that after Christmas they can open the ornament and have a fun, seasonal PEZ dispenser to add to their collection.
Each year we talk about the importance of choosing charities to donate too. We do this all year long, but around the holidays, when there is so much “getting”, we like to emphasize the importance of “giving” as well. This year we are including Petlanthropy gift cards in our children’s stockings. With a Petlanthropy Gift Card the recipeint can choose which local animal shelter they would like the donation to go towards. It’s so simple, you just purchase the gift card in any amount you like. The recipient goes to www.petlanthropy.org and chooses where to spend it. We love this idea because it allows our boys to make their own decisions on the causes they want to support most. My son chose to donate to rescue that works with small animals this year. It’s important to him – he rescued three guinea pigs over the summer and has spent a lot of time caring for them. He wants to make sure there’s always someone to take in unwanted small animal pets when they need a new home!
Vince Camuto Shoes: Boys Gradie High Top Sneaker in Navy
Of course winter means holidays and holidays mean get togethers with family and friends. My seven year old loves to find the perfect outfit for each event, so when it comes to holiday shoes Vince Camuto is on our list! This year he’s loving these leather lined high tops – they’re stylish and comfortable enough for a kid to play in all day long. He actually learned how to tie his shoes just because he wanted to wear these so badly. I can’t wait to see what he pairs them with for New Years!
And family get togethers means lots of traveling, so I’m really loving this Viv + Lou duffel bag. I adore the bright, flowery print and love that it can be personalized with a monogram or name, making it the perfect children’s gift for the child who travels often – whether they’re off jet-setting on adventure or just spending a night with their BFF. This was the perfect gift for my niece, who’s always on the go. It’s roomy and fun and personalizing it made it that much more special for her.
