Is there anything better than a crispy golden brown tater tot? Turns out, there is – tater tots loaded with real veggies & cheese and turned into crispy, delicious, golden brown, savory veggie tot waffles. McCain® Veggie Taters™ are the new gold standard in our house – perfect for flavorful side dishes, better for you snacks and irresistible appetizers, and for getting in extra servings of veggies without a fight. Crispy taters, fresh veggies and cheese? Sign. Me. Up.

To be honest, my husband is the biggest vegetable offender in our house. Despite our gorgeous backyard garden and our amazing local farm that gives us access to a huge variety of fresh, local veggies – you’ll rarely see any vegetables on my husbands dinner plate. Unfortunately, the kids tend to follow suit.
Every once in a while this really, really tired mom just wants everyone to eat some vegetables without a fight. I’ve had to get creative over the years. I love vegetables, and I love that cauliflower can be pizza and that “zoodles” are a thing. My family is a little more skeptical however.
That’s why I love McCain® Veggie Taters™ – they’re the comfort food style tater tots my family already loves made even better because they’re free of artificial flavors and packed full of real vegetables and cheeses for an unbelievably delicious side dish that I can feel really good about serving up.
And right now, through 11/1 you can save $1 on McCain® Veggie Taters™ by using this Checkout 51 coupon at local Wakefern, Shaw’s, and DeMoulas locations! Check your local freezer aisle to find all three delicious McCain® Veggie Taters™ flavors!

I like my tater tots extra crispy, something that my waffle maker is really good at. Making these Veggie Tot Waffles is a breeze and there are so many ways to load them up with toppings and customize them your own family’s tastes, or leave them plain because they’re delicious as is!

The first time I made Veggie Tot Waffles I was met with a pretty wary group of people at the dinner table, but one bite was all it took. All of my kids were asking if I planned to make them again soon and my husband wasn’t even willing to wait that long – he just wanted to know if there were enough for seconds!
He liked them so much he even made up a name for this recipe that he absolutely loves to share – VeggieTaffles. Yes, it’s a total Dad name and yes, the kids roll their eyes every time he says it, but whatever you call them – they’re just delicious.

Making Veggie Tot Waffles is so simple! This is a side you can whip up in just a few minutes, making it perfect for hectic weeknight dinners. All you need is a box of McCain® Veggie Taters™ in your favorite flavor (and with flavors like Potato, Broccoli & Cheddar Veggie Taters, Potato & Cauliflower Veggie Taters and Potato, Spinach & Asiago Veggie Taters there is something to appeal to every taste!), a waffle iron and your favorite toppings!
Start by allowing the frozen veggie taters to defrost. Once that’s done you’ll want to spray your waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray and preheat it. Line the waffle iron with veggie taters – how many depends on the size of your waffle maker, but you’ll want to really pack them tightly so that the veggie tot waffle doesn’t fall apart. My waffle maker takes about 12-16 taters to make a single waffle.

Cook your veggie tot waffles 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy (cooking time will vary based on your waffle maker, so keep an eye on them). Remove your waffles and top with your favorite toppings!
My favorite combination so far is to top waffles with chopped tomatoes, Greek yogurt (or sour cream) and shredded cheddar cheese. It’s great on all of the McCain® Veggie Taters™ flavors and goes with just about anything you’re making for dinner!

My husband is a huge fan of topping his Veggie Tater Waffles with a fried egg, crumbled bacon and fresh parsley. Serve this up on the side of some fried chicken and be prepared to watch your family lick their plates clean!

Most of the kids prefer their Veggie Tot Waffles plain because they love dipping them in ketchup or a tasty greek yogurt dip!
