Being fans of the original Zhu Zhu pets, the boys were really excited to try out the The Amazing Zhus when we received them. The Amazing Zhus are small motorized pets that interact with children in a variety of ways, performing stunts and magic tricks before their eyes!

There are two kinds of Amazing Zhus: Magician Pets and Stunt Pets. The line also includes a variety of accessories that help the Amazing Zhus perform magic tricks or gravity defying stunts.
First, we reviewed the Amazing Zhus Magician Pet. There are two Magician Pets: The Great Zhu and Madame Zhu. Magician Zhus are easily identified by their large hats. They come with 1 Magic Wand and 3 Magician Cards. Magician Zhus have over 200 sounds and interact with their accessories by performing tricks. Opening the box the first thing I noticed was that the Magician Cards are made of thick, sturdy cardboard that holds up well to the kids.
We tried the card tricks first. Just hold a car up to your Amazing Zhu’s nose and it will perform the act pictured on the card (singing, dancing or playing a game). Of course, the Zhu’s get it right every time (they’re magician’s after all!) and the kids are thrilled with this magic trick. They especially liked holding the cards backwards so the Zhu couldn’t “see” what was on the front, but managed to guess correctly each time!
Next we tried the magic wand, and it quickly became their favorite trick. Point the wand where you want your Amazing Zhu to go and it will magically follow. This is really cool, I was afraid the Zhu wouldn’t connect well to the wand, but it works really well with the Zhu following the wand reliably. The kids had so much fun making their Zhus walk in figure 8’s or loops around the house.
Besides performing card and wand tricks, The Great Zhu and Madame Zhu also work with select accessories like the High Wire and Dissapearing box.
Next we received some stunt pets. There are four in all: Kardini, Dynamo, Piccadilly and Abra. My Monkey grabbed Dynamo first, because blue is his favorite color, while J played with Kardini – the daredevil. My niece loved Piccadilly especially because of her heart shaped tail, although I personally love the big pink bow on Abra. I love that there are different colors to choose from, it makes choosing a special Zhu even more fun!
The stunt pets don’t perform magic tricks with the card or wands, instead they work with a wide range of accessories to perform amazing stunts like the High Wire and High Dive stunts, as well as the circus ball and cereal box and tomato can acts. We didn’t have any of the stunt accessories to try them on, but the kids had dun playing with just the pets themselves. They have over 50 sound effects!
All of the Amazing Zhus are easy to operate. They use just three small buttons (two on the back and one on the nose) to switch modes, play sounds and turn on and off. The tricks are so much fun and the boys had a great time showing off their magic pets to friends and family members. We really liked these toys for all the silly fun they provided and how enthralled the boys were by the magic tricks. We’ll be purchasing some of the stunt accessories ourselves to keep the fun going!
Amazing Zhus hit shelves in mid-October but it seems they are sold out at many retailers, so make sure you order your early to have it in time for the holidays!
