Saturdays in our house mean BBQ. You’d be hard pressed to find a weekend where the grill isn’t hot and the house isn’t packed with family and friends. We take our weekends as seriously as we take our ribs. So when Weber told me about their new and improved line of BBQ sauces I was genuinely interested in trying them. A few days later a box was on my doorstep full of Weber sauces, so I told my husband to call up some friends and head to the butcher.
There are five flavors in the Weber line:
Original – The perfect blend of natural spices and molasses deliver a sweet, thick taste.
Honey – Sweet and slightly tangy notes combine with subtle spice and fragrant honey for a satisfying bite.
Hickory – Natural hickory smoke melds with a blend of spices for hearty, robust flavor.
Sweet ’N Spicy – A colorful blend of chili pepper, chipotle and molasses results in a spicy flavor boost.
NEW Applewood Brown Sugar – Smoky Applewood combines with the sweetness of brown sugar for deliciously unique taste.
Every single one is made with high quality ingredients that contain no high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors or artificial preservatives like most other BBQ sauces do. That is huge for me because I am so conscious about the food I buy and feed my family. With three kids at home I don’t always have the time to make everything from scratch, so I love knowing I can rely on Weber to provide a quality product I feel good about feeding my boys.
We tried the Original BBQ and Applewood Brown Sugar flavors, but you can find the complete line at just about any supermarket. These sauces run $3.49 a bottle.
As soon as you open up a bottle you know this sauce is the real deal. Weber remade their sauces specifically with grilling in mind – making them thick, the kind of sauce that just clings to your food and provides a satisfying flavor with every single bite, which is essentially a must – especially for grilling.
First we fired up the grill and made some ribs. As much as we love our smoker, my husband has perfected grilling up some ribs in no time when we have last minute company. The Weber Original BBQ sauce has just the right combination of spices and molasses to give it a robust taste that’s not overly sweet and just a little bit of a kick that takes it above and beyond other bottled sauces. It really does cling to your food, caramelizing nicely over high heat and leaving our ribs with a thick, sticky, baked on sauce that made us feel like we were eating BBQ as it was meant to be eaten.
I was dying to try the Applewood brown Sugar but a few days of bad rain kept us off the grill, so I finally decided to whip up one of my weeknight standbys: Slow cooker pulled chicken. This is one of my favorite meals for a busy day, or anytime that I’m craving BBQ in the middle of February. I was excited to try the Weber sauce with this recipe because a few hours in the slow cooker has a tendency to make sauce watery. I was interested to see how Weber’s thicker formula would hold up.
The Applewood Brown Sugar has a deep smoky flavor and a hint of sweet brown sugar – again, Weber’s made sure the sauce isn’t overly sweet and the brown sugar is balanced out with just enough of a tangy bite to round out the flavors. Weber hit the mark again with this sauce, keeping the consistency nice and thick, despite the long cooking time. Our pulled chicken was piled high and full of flavor.
Overall we were really impressed with both flavors. Weber definitely came through on their promise to deliver thick ‘stick to your food’ consistency and finger licking flavor. I can’t wait to try the other sauces, especially the Sweet ‘N Spicy flavor! In addition to their sauces and extensive seasoning line Weber is also offering a brand new line of rubs in Chili Lime, Honey Garlic, Sriracha and Kansas City BBQ flavors! You can bet I’ll be checking those out too! Visit www.weberseasonings.com to learn more.
Now I know you’re just dying to get out and give these Weber sauces a try, so here’s the two recipes we used ourselves:
Jay’s 1 hour to tender BBQ Ribs (with Skillet Cornbread)
I know you’re probably laughing at the idea of ribs in one hour, but my husband has been using this recipe for years and gets rave reviews every time. The ribs finish up tender and juicy every time.
- Rub ribs with a dry rub, like Weber’s Kansas City BBQ Rub, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and marinate on the fridge overnight (or for at least a few hours if you’re in a hurry).
- Preheat your grill to 325 degrees.
- Unwrap the ribs and place over direct heat.
- Grill for 45 minutes, flipping the ribs every 15 minutes.
- After the third flip, cook for an additional 15 minutes, flipping and basting both sides in Weber BBQ sauce every five minutes.
- Remove ribs and serve.
Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken
Ingredients:
- 4 Chicken Breast
- 1 Bottle of Weber BBQ Sauce
- Salt & Pepper
- Optional: Buns and micro greens to garnish
Directions:
- Place chicken breast in the slow cooker.
- Cover with Weber BBQ Sauce & season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Cook on High for 4 hours, or Low for 6-8 hours.
- Remove chicken from the slow cooker and shred. Stir in extra sauce if desired & serve.
