With Christmas fast approaching (really, I mean, slow down Kris Kringle, I haven’t even bought an Elf on the shelf yet!) your children may have already started their Santa letters. But what if Santa wrote back? And what if he wrote back from the North Pole? Can you imagine the look on your child’s face when they pull a letter from the mailbox with a genuine North Pole postmark on it?
Thanks to the USPS and their Letters from Santa program your child can receive a letter from Santa postmarked from the North Pole!
We just did ours and it’s pretty simple. Just:
- Have your child write their letter to Santa and tell them you’re going to mail it.
- Write a response from Santa to your child. If you want some inspiration, check out my free printable Santa Letter Templates (and one from his elves too)!
- Place the response in a self addressed envelope. Make sure to add a stamp, and to write “Santa Claus, North Pole” as the return address.
- Put that envelope in a larger envelope addressed to:
NORTH POLE HOLIDAY POSTMARK
4141 POSTMARK DR
ANCHORAGE AK 99530-9998
Make sure you have the right amount of postage on it, then mail it off!
Once the letter is received a postal worker will remove the envelope with the letter from Santa, put a North Pole postmark on it and send it back to you!
USPS encourages parents to upload photos of their child receiving a letter from Santa, and to use the hashtag #SantaLetters (it kinda feels like everyone has a hashtag lately doesn’t it?).
The only catch is that letters have to be received by December 15th, so you’ll have to hurry (of course if you’re running late you can always stick the letters in a Priority mail envelope).
It’s a pretty cool experience for the price of just two postage stamps! Whether you decide to visit a post office or a store like Walmart, knowing where to buy stamps urgently is important, especially when something needs to be sent straight away. My boys love getting mail, so mail from Santa is bound to be the best part of their week! I’m sending mine out tomorrow, if you give it a shot comment below and let me know what your kids thought when they got their Santa letter in the mail!
