Every year one of my boys requests a birthday party themed after one of their favorite video games. This is usually followed by agreement from me, because the game is so popular I’m sure it will be easy to find party supplies. And then panic as I realize that it’s very hard and expensive to track down licensed party supplies for even the most popular video games. Rather than insist on a theme change I do my best to DIY decor and party favors, like these Minecraft Creeper Printable Party Bags, Plants Vs Zombies Party Decor and Minecraft inspired marshmallow pops. In the end it’s always an experience and the kids wind up with a one-of-a-kind party. This year we’re tackling Pokemon. Finding Pokemon party supplies isn’t as hard as the others, and we were able to stock up on cups and plates thankfully! Party bags were another story. Since we really wanted every aspect of this party to be awesome for our just-turned seven year old I gave some plain yellow treat bags a little upgrade!
Isn’t this hat cool, by the way? I bought it for my son before the party and it hasn’t left his head since. I had to practically pry it off for the photo. You can get the hat on Amazon!
These Pikachu bags are going to be really easy for you to put together. Just download the printable file and follow the instructions to print Pikachu on your own bags!
Follow the instructions below for perfect bags!
The first step is to get the right bags. Since you’re printing on them you have to avoid the glossy style party bags you find at the party store and instead opt for matte paper bags (often called Kraft Bags). These are the exact bags I’ve used for this project.
You’ll have to make a custom paper size equal to the size of your bag for printing. To do this:
- Open the Pikachu PDF.
- Go to “Print” and select “Properties” on the screen that comes up.
- Change Media Type to “envelope” and select “custom” under paper size.
- Enter the size height and width of your bags in the appropriate spaces.
- Press OK on both dialog boxes.
- Load your party bag, one at a time, in the paper feed of your printer – bottom first.
- Press “Print”. If everything has been set up properly you will get a bag that looks just like this:
We filled our bags with some candy and the following themed goodies:
- Pokemon Tattoos
- Pokemon Vinyl Stickers (these are actually really cool, they’re durable enough to stick on the back of ipads or tablets for a cool customization)
- Pokemon Bracelets
- Pokeball Pins
- Pokemon TCG Cards
- Mini Pokemon Figures
I wound up doing a ton of other DIY stuff, like custom cards and Pokeballs for a Pokemon Go inspired treasure hunt! I’ll be posting some other Pokemon DIY’s in the coming weeks, so if you’re planning a Pokemon themed party be sure to subscribe and get those updates to your inbox!
