When we decided to throw another Minecraft birthday party we knew we were in for weeks of homemade decorations and party favors. The Minecraft Marshmallow Pops were one of the easiest and most delicious additions to our party, they were a huge hit with both the kids and adults and they looked great on our dessert table, fitting the bill as both a tasty treat and a Minecraft themed decoration. I really fell in love with these pops, since they are nut free they would be great as a classroom birthday treat or an extra special addition to a school bake sale too! Don’t forget to grab the free printable tags for these as well!
The dirt blocks are chocolate with graham cracker crumbs and the grass blocks are milk chocolate and vanilla candy melts with Oreo cookie crumbs. Both were so very delicious. Melting chocolate is very easy to find in an assortment of flavors and colors online or at any local craft store.
Here’s what you need to get started:
- Large Marshmallows
- 2 Bags of melting chocolate (dark or milk chocolate work, or a little of each like I used)
- 1 bag of green candy melts
- Oreo Cookies
- Graham Crackers
- Lollipop sticks
- A wax paper lined baking sheet for the marshmallow pops to dry on.
Optional:
- Candy Melter
- Lollipop bags and ties (optional. I did not use these, but if you want the pops to double as a party favor this makes them easier to take home)
[important]Some tips for working with chocolate:
– Never, ever let water come into contact with your chocolate. It will cause your chocolate to seize, becoming a lumpy mess. Make sure all bowl, utensils and your hands are completely dry before you start.
– Don’t over heat your chocolate, or you risk rendering it useless. Heat chocolate in short intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
– Before dipping the marshmallows I like to dip the end of each stick in some melted chocolate, then push it into the marshmallows. This helps the marshmallow stay on the stick when they’re being eaten, resulting in cleaner floors and fewer upset children!

Dirt Pops:
Melt the dark or milk chocolate. I use a Wilton chocolate melter, but you can achieve them same result by putting the chocolate into a bowl and heating it in the microwave at 20-30 second intervals, stirring in between, until chocolate is smooth.
Crush graham crackers into crumbs. I used a food proccessor to help me get very fine crumbs, but you can also put the graham crackers in a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crush them. Pour the crumbs into a bowl.
Dip the tip of each lollipop stick into melted chocolate and push it into the bottom of a marshmallow.
Give them a minute to dry a little, then dip each marshmallow into chocolate, coating completely. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off (this is important, if there is too much excess chocolate it will cause the graham cracker crumbs to slide off).
Roll the marshmallow pop in the graham cracker crumbs, coating completely.
Put top side down on a wax paper lines baking sheet.
Repeat for however many pops you want. I used the entire bag of chocolate, but if you don’t need that many save the remaining chocolate for the grass pops.
Grass Pops:
Melt the dark or milk chocolate in your melter or microwave, same as above.
Crush Oreo cookies in your food processor or with a large ziploc bag and rolling pin.
Dip sticks into chocolate and push into marshmallows, allow to dry.
Dip each marshmallow into the chocolate, coating completely. Allow excess chocolate to drip off.
Using a spoon, sprinkle Oreo cookie crumbs on to just the bottom half of the chocolate covered marshmallow.
Place the marshmallows top side down on wax paper and allow to dry completely in a cool place (this took about an hour for me)
Once the pops are dry, melt the green candy melts. Be very careful when melting this one, I find that white chocolate gets scorches more easily than milk chocolate.
Dip the top half of the marshmallow pops into the green chocolate and allow any excess to drip off. Try to avoid getting any Oreo crumbs in the melted chocolate, and if you do scoop them right out with a spoon.
Place the pops top side down on your wax paper lined sheet again and allow to dry.
One they are dry, place all the pops in an airtight container and store them someplace cool until you need them.
To display them we bought Styrofoam at a craft store to stick the pops in. You can download and print the tags I made here:

Just print and cut them out. I used cardstock, then taped them to a paper straw to stand next to the pops.
We used them as part of our dessert table, so they weren’t wrapped, although I did have bags and ties on hands for the guests that had to leave early and wanted to take some with them.
