Although I’ve been blogging on and off almost my entire life, next month will mark the three year anniversary of my first serious adventure in blogging – this very blog here. I started The Shady Lane in 2014 because I wanted to share more than just personal stories… I wanted an outlet for recipes, DIY tutorials, and my growing collection of free printables. Over the last three years I’ve had a few ups and downs as a blogger – something I think many of us go through as we try to juggle a blog, our families and our home. I’ve learned that the only way for me to feel successful as a blogger and a mom is to rely on quality tools that allow me to manage my daily tasks without spending days and nights glued to my computer and away from my family.
I don’t often write blogging tutorials, but growing your blog with ViralTag is so easy, it’s something I really wanted to share with other bloggers who might be feeling discouraged over growth and time management.
So what is ViralTag?
ViralTag is a social media management tool. You’ve probably heard of a few different programs for managing social media. I think I’ve tried them all over the last couple of years. The thing is, many social media management tools are frustrating to use, or can only work with a specific social network (requiring you to use two or three different programs) or I didn’t see enough growth to justify the monthly cost.
Why is ViralTag different?
ViralTag is a one stop shop. It works with Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Tumblr. Being able to manage all of my social media accounts from one dashboard saves me so much time every day. Using ViralTag is simple – create an account and connect each of your social media profiles. After that ViralTag offers you a number of ways to curate and create content for each account.
- Create your own content. You can use ViralTag to upload your own images, add links and descriptions and post them to your social media accounts. You can even edit images with the Canva integration.
- Find new content with ViralTag. By searching popular images or setting up an RSS feed from your favorite blogs you can always find fresh, new content to share.
- Use the ViralTag browser extension. With the Chrome extension you can schedule content to your social media platforms from anywhere on the web.
Once you’ve found great content it’s easy to edit captions and choose which social media channels to post to. With the bulk editor I can schedule a week’s worth of posts across all of my social channels in under an hour. Prior to using ViralTag I felt like I was always glued to my phone or laptop trying to keep up with my social accounts, so this freed up a huge chunk of time for me each week.
Set it and forget it.
Once you know how to get great content you’ll need to set up a posting schedule. ViralTag makes this simple. You can allow ViralTag to analyze your accounts and suggest the best posting times for you, or you can set a custom schedule. I like to do both, using the suggested times and then adding in a few more custom time slots to keep my accounts feeling very active.
I can also set up Evergreen Content, which is content that will be shared automatically by ViralTag whenever there is an empty slot in my posting schedule. I make sure all of my most popular content is set up here. It gives me extra peace of mind – if I forget to add enough content for the weekend I can be guaranteed ViralTag will be sharing popular content while I’m off enjoying time with my family.
I typically try to schedule for an entire week ahead. Doing this really frees up my schedule for creating and sharing new content and ensures that my social media accounts are never inactive.
The reason I felt compelled to write this guide is because for the first time in three years I’m seeing real, steady growth across my social media channels and email list. My readers are seeing great content from me all the time, and they’re responding by commenting and sharing it! Now I’m able to keep readers engaged all the time, while still finding time to create great new content. I can view my analytics by channel and even see details like how many people visited my profile or how many of those visits turned into actions such as likes, repins or retweets.
Proof you can see.
ViralTags analytics allow me to track my followers and my growth across all of my social media channels so that I can see what’s working and what isn’t. Using the analytics I can fine tune my posting schedule or figure out which social media accounts I need to target to stimulate engagement and what times are best to reach my audience, so that I know when to publish new content. I can also figure out what social channels are driving the most traffic to my blog, so that I know where the bulk of my effort should be – for example, Pinterest is a much greater source of traffic for me than Twitter. When I’m working on growing my social media accounts I know that focusing on Pinterest is going to pay off more in the long run. As someone who used to really focus on my Twitter following this is eye opening!
Expand your circle.
ViralTag has some other great features I’ve come to love. For example the Circles feature allows you to connect with other influencers in your niche. You’ll grow your social media presence and find fresh content by collaborating with others.
Something else worth mentioning is the great customer service through ViralTag. Every email I’ve sent has been responded to quickly and personally – something that other management tools are severely lacking.
