With baby number four due in less than three months my husband and I have been frantically trying to get reacquainted with the great big world of baby gear. My youngest is four, so it’s been almost five years since we’ve had to purchase baby items – which may as well be a lifetime honestly, so much has changed it’s basically like starting all over! A high chair was one of the items we just couldn’t settle on. Over the last eight years I’ve had three different high chairs, because I never like one enough to keep it for the next baby. My oldest had a very fancy, carefully crafted wood chair, which was the messiest thing on the planet. Baby food and the million cracks and crevices that come along with a wooden high chair do not mix well. It was a nightmare to clean. We switched to plastic chairs for the next two babies and it may have saved some scrubbing… but not enough. Straps that were impossible to remove stains from, little hiding places for dried up food.. to me a high chair was just a bulky item that forever needed to be cleaned.
So imagine my surprise at Blogger Bash this year when I walked past the Fisher Price booth to see the high chair on display disassembled and sitting inside a dishwasher. Can you imagine that for second – because if you’ve ever tried to clean a high chair you’ll realize how glorious that moment was. Of course I had a million questions, and I’m really excited to be able to get my answers first hand with this Fisher Price 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair Review.
So, first let’s talk features, because the Fisher Price 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair has plenty of them. Besides functioning as four different seats the Fisher Price 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair makes easy clean up a priority by boasting a dishwasher safe high chair seat, wipe clean straps and a crevice free, stain resistant and machine washable seat cover and infant insert. So when I was reviewing this chair I had two goals: first, take the chair apart and reassemble it to figure out how easy it would be to change configurations and second – to get the chair really dirty and see how well it cleaned up. Setting the chair up out of the box was really simple. It took about 15 minutes, and only because I read the instructions front to back first. Total building time was maybe 5 minutes. Everything really does just snap into place. Next, I took the chair through all four of it’s configurations:

Overall, it takes only a minute or two to change the high chair to a new setting. Everything either clicks in or out. One really neat thing I realized is that I can use the space saving high chair on my dining room chair, and also use the youth seat at the same time. This was really exciting for me, especially with a large family – at get-togethers and holidays I will gain another child seat, and even for every day use, I can put the baby in the space saving high chair and allow my four year old to use the youth seat. For anyone who travels often, or even for someone looking for a highchair for grandma’s house – this is a pretty neat perk.
I did then proceed to cover the chair in baby food – channeling my inner 9 month old to replicate a messy lunch (make sure to check out my video review to see the results yourself!). After that I disassembled the seat, put the seat cover and newborn insert into the washing machine, places the high chair seat itself into my dishwasher along with the tray liner and let everything run. A little over an hour later I put everything back together and inspected it for stains – to my extreme relief, there wasn’t a single leftover stain. I was really worried about the newborn insert because it’s white – and also about how well I ground green beans into the seam of the seat cover. Every last stain and bit of food came out in the regular cycle of my washing machine. The chair fit well into my dishwasher – of course don’t expect to be able to fit anything else as the chair takes pretty much all available space (my dishwasher is 10 years old, so your mileage may vary here). Even the straps washed perfectly clean under just some running water, despite my attempts at getting food to dry and cake up in the area where the strap meats the buckle. The chair was reassmbled in under five minutes.
Overall? I wouldn’t take everything apart and run a separate load in the dishwasher and washing machine every single day, but I honestly don’t think I would even need to. The high chair wipes up incredibly well with just a damp cloth and some dish soap on a regular basis. I absolutely love that I have the option of a more thorough clean, and it’s something I would absolutely do once a week to keep the chair looking new. I also think it’s a great option to have on those days where you run to grab the phone and baby somehow coats every available surface in prunes.
To sum my review up, Fisher Price has really hit a great mark here with the 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair. Not only is clean up simplified, they have addressed some major issues most high chairs face, like straps that are easily stained. They’ve also made this chair an extremely good value for parents as it can be used from infant to 50 lbs. One seat will last you years as it grows with your child. Fisher Price has also addressed a lot of space issues by making the 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair fold and store easily. This also make travel really easy when you know you’ll need to bring your own seat and makes the chair a great option for grandparents or baby sitters who may not need the chair everyday – not only can it store out of sight easily, it can be used for years without needing to purchase anything new. The Fisher Price 4-in-1 Total Clean High Chair winds up being a solid buy for the price.
