Being a hardcore fan of traditional thermometers, I was excited to have a chance to review the Braun No-Touch + Forehead Thermometer and to find out for myself if it could be as accurate and reliable as my old standby.
As soon as I received my Braun No-Touch Forehead Thermometer I knew I had to really put it through the paces in order to trust that a thermometer like this could be accurate and safe for my kids. To say I am skeptical about a forehead thermometer would be an understatement. I tend to over-worry when the kids are sick. Realistically I know they’ll be fine, even with a fever, but I just can’t help wanting to take their temperature every five seconds. Of course, one of my boys wants me to take his temperature all the time when he’s sick, and the other two cry every time they see the thermometer.
Since I have been using my old thermometer for years and I trust it I figured I would take the kids temperatures with both my thermometer and the Braun No-Touch Forehead thermometer to determine accuracy and ease of use. (You can check out my video review here on Youtube to see for yourself how it went!).
My thermometer is a standard oral thermometer. It takes a temperature in about 10 seconds.
The Braun No-Touch Forehead Thermometer says it takes an accurate reading in 2 seconds, from up to 2 inches away from the forehead using an innovative optical system to catch twice as much radiated heat as other forehead thermometers. The Braun thermometer also has a proximity sensor to let you know when you are too far away from the forehead for an accurate result.
I tested the thermometer on myself and the boys multiple times over the last few days. Each time both thermometers displayed similar results, but The Braun thermometer did it in much less time. Imagine bending down to plant a quick kiss on a child’s head and taking their temperature at the same time, because that is essentially what you can do with the Bruan Thermometer!
Of course one of the biggest features here is the No-Touch ability. You can place the thermometer in silent mode and go into a sick child’s bedroom. When you turn on the thermometer the display will read “FWD”. Gently move the thermometer forward until you are within 2 inches of your child’s forehead. Once it is close enough the thermometer automatically takes the temperature and displays it on the backlit screen. In silent mode there is no beep at the end and since you never have to touch your child they can continue to sleep undisturbed. This is also great for my monkey, who hates to have his temperature taken, because it is over and done with before he has a chance to protest. The display is also color coded and lights up green when there is no fever, yellow when there is an elevated temperature and red when there is a fever, making it even easier to read. And I love that I can use it on multiple children at the same time, without having to sterilize it, because it never even needs to touch their heads!
I am extremely surprised by the level of accuracy and ease of use the Braun No-Touch + Forehead thermometer offers. I was prepared to be dissapointed by this product, but it has given me nothing but accurate results. At this point I’m ready to toss the old oral thermometer and face cold and flu season with my Braun No-Touch + Forehead thermometer knowing I’ll never have to struggle to keep a thermometer in a screaming child’s mouth for a full 10 seconds again!
