I’m finding lately that my fourth pregnancy has a tendency to draw a lot of questions, especially as my due date nears. It’s not unusual for me to be approached when I’m out shopping with the boys these days. The questions are almost always the same: Am I finally having a girl (I’m not!), and what is my favorite baby item? I get asked this a lot by other moms-to-be, looking to fill out their registries with useful items, and by people who admit they are looking for the perfect gift for someone who’s expecting. It’s an easy question because my answer has been pretty much the same for the last six years: A Boppy Nursing Pillow. This was the one item that I used every day, and used for the longest. I was thrilled when Boppy offered to send me one of their new designs recently, as I’ve been wanting to do a Boppy Nursing Pillow Review for a while anyway – and I was going to need a new Boppy for this baby, as my four year old still sleeps with his and isn’t willing to part with it!
The new design I received is called Love Letters and I adore it. It’s such a sweet, gender neutral design that will fit in with just about any nursery decor or theme. So whether you’ve taken a gender test to find out the gender of your baby or not, this could always be a safe purchase.
When I first used the Boppy Pillow it was with my second son, who was formula fed. It had been gifted to me, and even though I wasn’t nursing I didn’t want to see the gift go to waste, so I used it during feeding time. I couldn’t believe the difference it made. The Boppy’s design is perfect for cradling baby in a comfortable position while feeding. No more sore arms or awkwardly trying to readjust myself just as my little one was dozing off! When my third son was born my Boppy pillow was one of the first things packed into my hospital bag. I used it from day one – and every day after for the 12+ months that I nursed him.
The Boppy’s shape and design makes it so easy to use just about anywhere – a chair, couch, bed, even sitting on the floor it’s easy to position and offers just the right kind of support to hold baby in a natural and comfortable way. The height is perfect for nursing and for bottle feeding and it leaves mom much more mobile as well. With the added support you won’t feel quite as pinned down while nursing, which really comes in handy of you have other children at home and might need the freedom to open and emergency juice box, double check homework or fix someone’s ninja turtle mask (all things I have been asked to do on a regular basis while nursing).
I also love the removable slip covers – it makes cleaning the Boppy Pillow so simple, and also allows me to switch up slipcovers from time to time when I feel like matching new decor – which I’ve done a few times because the Boppy Nursing Pillow isn’t just for feeding time. As my boys got older it became a living room staple for tummy time, or for extra support as they learned to sit up on their own. My youngest son never let go of his Boppy. At some point after his first birthday he got into the habit of curling up in it to go to sleep – a habit that stuck, because even now at four he still uses it as a bedtime pillow. I love that it’s held it’s shape and is still soft and comfortable after so many years and the abuse of a toddler and frequent washes!
I already have my Boppy Nursing Pillow packed and ready to head to the hospital with us, and it’s always my go-to for new parent gifts.
